Join the Kathisma Prayer Group this Lent!
Deepen your spiritual journey this Great Lent by praying through the Psalter with our Kathisma Prayer Group. Rooted in the rich spiritual heritage of the Orthodox Church, this practice allows us to unite in continuous prayer, drawing strength from the words that have guided the faithful for generations. The Psalter has been a central part of Orthodox monastic and liturgical life, shaping daily prayer and devotion throughout the Church’s history.
The Psalter is divided into 20 Kathismas, and we will form 20 small groups, each beginning with a different Kathisma. This way, the entire Psalter is prayed collectively each day and completed individually by each participant in 20 days. Over two full cycles, we will cover the entire 40 days of Lent in prayerful unity.
Whether you are new to this practice or a longtime lover of the Psalms, all are welcome! Let us journey together in prayer, seeking God’s grace and renewal this Lent.
2025 Lenten Psalter Group Joining the Psalter Group is a commitment to read one Kathisma of the Psalter each day of the fast, about 15-20 minutes of reading per day. This is done on your own, at a time you choose, not as a group meeting. An email will be sent out before the fast begins with the list of names and assignments. On the first day, Monday March 3, begin reading the Kathisma you are assigned, and pray for each person on the list. Each day, read the next Kathisma. After Kathisma 20, begin the next day at number one. In this manner, each person will read the entire Psalter twice during the 40 day fast, and the entire Psalter will be read collectively by the group each day. The last day is Friday, April 11.
